Hello Purefoy Families,
It is amazing that we have been in school for seven weeks! The cooler weather has been a welcoming treat.
I wanted to share with our families some of the wonderful “happenings” going on at Purefoy this week. I sat in on Ms. McFarland’s class this week. The students were working on “Exploding the Moment” with a writing piece. At the conclusion of the writing, the students were asked, “Who would like to share?” To my surprise, almost every hand was enthusiastically raised. The children had such deep and rich conversations about their writing pieces. I was so proud of their thinking!
Today, I visited a first grade classroom to listen as they shared their publishing pieces from Writer’s Workshop. The students were focused on one topic in their writing and celebrated each other. They are developing into fantastic writers.
Book Fair this week was a great success. Parents and students shopped in our store, organized by our fantastic PTA.
Opening a new school can be a challenge to all of us. This summer as we planned our procedures for lunch, we had to think about many factors…do we have enough tables, is the cafeteria large enough to accommodate our set up? What about when we have visitors? We would like to revise some of the procedures while visiting at lunch. In order not to displace students at lunch we will still have visitor tables. We would like to offer to students the option to bring one friend to sit with their visitors. Please be aware that students should not share food with their friends, even when sitting at the visitor table. Happy munching!
This year is a unique opportunity for the Purefoy community to establish new friendships with students and families. We would like to start a school photo project. Our goal is to create a photo album of our families. We will keep the album in the office for parents to browse. If you would like to participate (it is optional), please send a photo of your family to school. Be sure and write on the back the students name and teacher.
Thank you for sharing your children with us. They bring us joy every day!
Sincerely,
Mary Webb, Principal
